College tuition and student-loan debt are higher than ever. College is expensive for many reasons, including a surge in demand, an increase in financial aid, a lack of state funding, a need for more faculty members and money to pay them, and ballooning student services. The cost of college has made a degree less advantageous than it was 10 years ago, one expert said.
